    Stung Treng province is located in the northeast of Cambodia. It borders the provinces of Mondulkiri and Kratie to the south, Ratanakiri to the east, Kampong Thom and Preah Vihear to the west. Its northern boundary, there is a international border with Laos.

    Stung Treng city is the provincial capital. It is an important trade point with Lao. Strung Treng city  a friendly, quiet country town situated on the banks of the San River and the Mekong River. It actually is located on the banks of the San River, with the mighty Mekong flow through the northeastern outskirts of the town.

    The San River goes by three names: San, Kong and Sekong River. It is depending on which of the locals you speak to. Strung Treng is one of Cambodia’s beautiful picture-postcard river towns. It’s a nice place to kick back and chill out if you are on a circuit tour of the Northeast River Scene, from here to Laos.

    Koh Ksach Resort

    Koh Ksach Resort is located along Se Kong river. It is 5 kilometer distance from the Strung Treng city. The resort features a beautiful sandy beach, 2 kilometers long and one-half kilometer wide, where travelers can swim or relax. The best time to visit it is the dry season and especially popular during Khmer New Year.

    Koh Ksach Resort provides good accommodation to tourists who come here from all parts of the world. This fine resort is known for its hospitality as well as for its picturesque location. This makes Koh Ksach Resort to be one of those attractions in Stung Treng that promises to provide some charming scenery.

    On arrival the resort you will be introduced to its hospitality. Travelers lodging in the resort will also get a chance to take a stunning river view. It is a great idea to walk down the sandy beach with your lover. You could take part in some beach activities like beach volleyball, kayaking, swimming and boating in the river.


    Watching Irrawaddy Dolphin

    There are about fifteen to twenty Irrawaddy dolphins make their home on this beautiful stretch of the Mekong River. They make upward arches, breaking the surface of the water as they swim under water. Irrawaddy dolphins are not jumpers like their sea-faring relatives and are quite a bit shy as well.

    In the past, they have been hunted and killed by fishermen. Nowadays, their numbers is slowly increases, as more fishermen in the area are educated to protect the dolphins. In the early morning hours and the late afternoon and early evening hours, dolphins are most active. So you could easily observe them.

    You could hire small boat of a local family, then they boat to take you out on the river for a closer look. The charge is 3,500 riel per person. Irrawaddy dolphin population inhabits a 190km stretch of the Mekong River between Cambodia and Lao PDR. According 2008 figures, the latest population is estimated between 64 and 76 members.


    Mekong Discovery Trail

    The Mekong Discovery Trail takes you into the heart of the Mekong where you can explore the beauty of the river and meet friendly local, received memorial experiences in northeast Cambodia. The Mekong Discovery Trail is a network of safe, ecotourism journeys through some of the most natural and least populated parts of the Mekong River.

    Mekong River Dolphin Viewing

    You would many opportunities to view Mekong River Dolphins. At this present, there are less than 100 dolphins are left in the Mekong. Well managed ecotourism is part of the solution to increase their value to local communities and ensure their long-term protection.

    Horse Carts in Kratie

    Kratie town is famous for its horse carts. Take a horse cart and start your tour around the town and north along the Mekong River to the famous Kampi dolphin pool. Travelling by horse cart is a good way to experience the riverside town of Kratie and its attractions including the French colonial architecture.

    House Boats on the Mekong at Stung Treng

    Relax on a traditional river boat is a very special way. Watch the magnificent views of sunset, sunrise and spectacular flooded forests of the Ramsar wetlands. Stop at riverside villages to shop in local marketsa and buy fish from passing boats.

    Tasting local produce from the Farms and Markets

    Taste local produce in Kratie and Stung Treng Provinces like sticky rice (krolan), pickled fish (nem), delicious tropical fruits and fresh fish. Cook and taste local dishes by yourself.
