Koh Ksach Resort
Koh Ksach Resort is located along Se Kong river. It is 5 kilometer distance from the Strung Treng city. Watching Irrawaddy Dolphin
There are about fifteen to twenty Irrawaddy dolphins make their home on this beautiful stretch of the Mekong River. They make upward arches, breaking the surface of the water as they swim under water. Irrawaddy dolphins are not jumpers like their sea-faring relatives and are quite a bit shy as well.
In the past, they have been hunted and killed by fishermen. Nowadays, their numbers is slowly increases, as more fishermen in the area are educated to protect the dolphins. In the early morning hours and the late afternoon and early evening hours, dolphins are most active. So you could easily observe them.
You could hire small boat of a local family, then they boat to take you out on the river for a closer look. The charge is 3,500 riel per person. Irrawaddy dolphin population inhabits a 190km stretch of the Mekong River between Cambodia and Lao PDR. According 2008 figures, the latest population is estimated between 64 and 76 members.
