I recently stayed at the Anise Hotel for 3 weeks while volunteering in Phnom Penh and traveling alone. I can’t say enough about what a pleasant experience it was. The waiters at the the restaurant, the housekeepers and the front desk reception staff—everyone went out of their was to make my stay comfortable. The free breakfast offers a variety of very good selections. Laundry is washed, pressed and returned neatly hung on hangers daily. The front desk is very helpful with arranging travel and making sure little details are taken care of. The wait staff is attentive and friendly, yet always very professional. After a three- week stay they began to feel like family.
I stayed in the Annex across the street from the main building and had a large room with kitchenette. I didn’t use the kitchenette as much as I thought I would because there are many good and affordable restaurants within walking distance, including the hotel restaurant. Plus, it was an opportunity to experience Khmer food, which is very good. The Annex does have very steep stairs, and there are no ground level rooms or elevator. The area is a little less tourist-y and noisy than the riverfront and the hotel has a lot of guests who are volunteers or working with NGO’s. It feels safe, and the staff does watch out for their guests. If I return to Cambodia, I will stay at the Anise—can’t imagine staying anywhere else!
Room Tip: Note that there is no elevator, and the steps in the Annex are
– An excellent midrange hotel with great service
I stayed at the Anise Hotel for 4 weeks while I was volunteering in Phnom Penh. I stayed in an upgraded room with a balcony. The room was large and well furnished and the bed was comfortable. The service at the hotel was uniformly excellent. As a bonus, the hotel provides free laundry service for 5 pieces/day per person. The hotel's restaurant was very good and the provided daily breakfast excellent. The hotel does not have an elevator. Overall, the Anise Hotel represents an amazing value in Phnom Penh.
– Excellent mid rage hotel
The room was fantastic, the staff were super helpful. Everything was clean and lovely. My room had a beautiful balcony. Laundry was included in the price and they helpfully ironed my work clothes. Overall, really positive experience.
This hotel is a lovely old hotel, the rooms are very clean and spacious, with a lovely balcony and a smaller room to sit in. There is a lot of building work around the outside of the hotel but that is something that the hotel have no control over, this did not interrupt our stay though. There are all the amenities in your room that you require and also free laundry done for you on the day and brought back to you all fresh and ironed.
The restaurant is great too, reasonable prices and the food is delicious, not your normal hotel prices, they reflect the other restaurants in the area. There is no lift so unsuitable for those with certain disabilities I would say.
Room Tip: The top floor I think would be best although lots of stairs but there is a lovely roof terrace.
